Dear DRS Colleagues:

At this past DRS meeting we announced the tragedy of our colleagues in New Zealand.  Sadly, over the last few days we have all been following the news of the unfolding events and extensive damage that has hit our friends and colleagues in Japan. Many of our members and contributors come from this beautiful country. We have had the good fortune to correspond with Drs. Saitoh and Tsubahara and are relieved to report that as of yesterday they, their families and immediate colleagues are well.

I am certain that many members of our society would like to help our friends in Japan.  As with New Zealand, all indications are that the fasted and surest way to get them support is through the well-established non-government organizations.  The Red Cross, for one, has a straightforward online mechanism for donations at http://www.ifrc.org/.

Tragedies like this make us recognize the fragility of life. To our friends and colleagues in Japan, we are certain that we speak for all DRS members in sending you our heartfelt wishes for your safety and comfort.

Sincerely,

Rosemary Martino, DRS President (2011-12)
Steven Leder, DRS President (2010-11)
Peter Belafsky, DRS President (2012-13)
